The New Yorker Magazine ran an article a couple of days ago exploring the credibility of the infamous Dr Oz. If you haven’t heard of Dr Mehmet Oz then either you are new to weight loss products or you’re not a celebrity!
Dr Oz Bio (the boring bit!)
Dr Oz completed his undergrad at Harvard, and then attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and The Wharton School, where he got both his M.D. and an MBA. He went on to become a professor of cardiac surgery at Columbia University, director of the Heart Assist Device Program, a researcher in heart replacement surgery, the founder of the Health Corps non-profit.
He now has his own daytime TV show in America, the Dr Oz Show. He has won three Emmy Awards and his show is produced by Oprah Winfrey. He directs the Cardiovascular Institute and Complementary Medicine Program at New York Presbyterian Hospital. His research interests include heart replacement surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, complementary medicine and health care policy. He has authored over 400 original publications, book chapters, and medical books, has received several patents, and performs more than 100 heart surgeries per year. Read more
Back to the gym, first exercise routines of the year….loads more to go!
Well that’s it; I have officially ‘started back at the gym’ and gotten back into my exercise routines! I was up early, squeezed into my gym gear (a little firmer to fit into than it was a few weeks ago I can tell you) and was rearing to go. I have to admit that I actually felt a little nervous going back after a few weeks off. Sounds a little daft doesn’t it?
Exercise Routines – Ha!
Being ever conscious that everyone starts back into their exercise routines with enthusiasm in the New Year, I was half expecting the gym to be packed to the rafters and was surprised to arrive at my Abs & Core class to find only a couple of other people there…..and then it went downhill. It looks like every man and his dog were waiting until the very last second to turn up to the class and with just a minute to go, we were all squashed on our little exercise mats in neat little rows. Eager little faces all expectantly looking at our instructor, who despite being a really nice and down to earth guy, was at that moment in time looking like the devil in a leotard! Well, that’s it. Christmas is done and dusted, the relatives finally headed back home and you have probably eaten most of the chocolates and goodies that have been overflowing from all of your cupboards and fridge, because some where along the line you truly believed that you were feeding 500 over the Christmas period, rather than just the few extra family members!
Now you are probably thinking about returning to work after the festivities and like me, are probably having to breathe in just that little bit more in order to do up that top button on the trousers you were wearing just a few weeks ago, the ones that must have shrunk a little in that blasted washing machine….
